Frequently Asked Questions

What is a keepsake bear? The idea of a keepsake bear is to have garments that hold special memories for you made into something you can display and keep close by instead of boxing away clothes. My keepsake bears are my personal pride and joy, my works of art, hand crafted from the precious garments you send me to create you a bear that you can treasure forever . Each keepsake is carefully planned, prepared, pieced, stuffed and hand finished with absolute care and attention to every last detail. I pride myself on my unique and individual hand embroidery and hand finishing.

Can I purchase your bear patterns to make my own? The bear and bunny patterns that I have designed and developed are not available to buy and are protected under copyright law to ensure that I keep my designs unique to me. This also ensures that you, as my client,  can be assured that you are truly buying something completely unique that cannot be ordered or made elsewhere.

How many items are needed to make a keepsake bear/bunny? You can provide me with as many items as you wish but the minimum guidelines are shown below, all unused garments will always be returned to you with your completed keepsake.
Younger baby clothing (0-3, 3-6 months) = 5-8 items
Older baby clothing (6-12 months) = 3-6 items
Toddler, Child and Adult clothing = 1 or 2 items

What kind of fabric can be used? The keepsakes I make are generally made from the items of clothing you send me.  I will always assume that you have sent your items to me in the condition you wish to have your bear made as I do not wash garments prior to making bears, this ensures any sentimental scents are also held within your keepsake. Garments are cut and pressed in the process of my bear making.
Fabrics which make the best quality keepsakes are; Jersey (babygro's, vests etc) Velour, Fleece, Wool, Fur, Cotton and Denim.
Unsuitable fabrics are; loosely hand knitted items and fine, thin, delicate, sheer fabrics.

What size are your keepsakes?  My Original Jointed Keepsake Bear and Bunny measures 36 cm (14 inches) from top to toe in standing position, seated measures 24 cm (9.5 inches). The mini version measures 25 cm (10 inches) from top to toe in standing position and seated measures 17 cm (6.5 inches). The soft body bear sits at 22cm high.

When and where do I send my order? I will contact you when I am ready to receive your order and I will forward you the Keepsake Order Form with info of where to send your clothing bundle(s). For peace of mind, I recommend sending your parcel via a tracked method of delivery (such as Royal Mail Recorded Delivery or Courier).  Please also ensure your clothing is double-wrapped or in a plastic bag before posting to avoid damage during transit. I cannot accept responsibility for any parcels damaged or lost in transit to me.  I will confirm safe receipt of your parcel.

How will my finished keepsake be returned to me? Local delivery or collection is always welcome otherwise I use a tracked delivery service to ensure safe insured delivery.

When do I need to pay for my order and what payment methods are accepted?  Payment is required before I start your order. You can send payment with your order or you can send your bundle and order form to me so that I can confirm your requirements and the total you need to pay. I will then request your payment before I commence work on your order. Payment methods accepted are PayPal, Bank Transfer, Cheque and Cash for my local customers only (please do not send cash in the post).

Can your keepsake bears and bunnies be given to a child as a toy? My keepsake bears and bunnies are designed and intended for use as adult collectible display purposes ONLY. They are not designed or intended for use as a toy as they cannot be CE approved so do not comply with any toy safety guidelines and therefore are not deemed safe for use as a toy by Law.  They are not designed or intended for use in play by children under 14 years of age.  Each keepsake is triple-stitched to the highest possible standards and all detailing is finished by hand including buttons which pose a choking hazard if they become loose.  Due to the mixture of fabrics used they will not withstand play by children.  Child safety joints are used and they are filled with polyester fibre fill which complies with British Safety Standards BS5852 and BS1425.

WestWood Bears of Cheshire cannot and does not accept any liability for the misuse of these decorative collectable keepsakes.
